Interventions and Therapies
All pupils access the Universal curriculum off at Ysgol Bryn Derw. At times throughout their learning journey they may need targeted or specialist input alongside the universal offer.
Teachers can seek short-term intervention by referring to the Pupil Success Group (PSG). This is an in-house group of staff who have specialist skills in targeted areas. The referral is discussed in a monthly Pupil Success Group and an identified course of action agreed. For example, this could be targeted staff upskilling in a certain communication approach, sensory circuit support, observation of pupil to create an emotional regulation plan etc.
The Pupil Success Group is the gateway into targeted and specialist pupil support, including;
- School Communication Team
- YBD NHS Speech and Language Clinic
- School Sensory Team
- School Emotional Regulation Team
- Family Liaison Officer
- Education Psychologist
- Health Professional referral (including CALDS, OT, SaLT, School Nurse)
The therapies and interventions that the PSG might consider are;

- Pet Therapy
- Yoga
