PDG statement

This section gives information on how we spend our Pupil Development Grant (PDG)

Pupil Development Grant (PDG) for 5-15 year olds

There were 32 pupils on the school roll in September 2017 this is an increase from the 0 that were on the school roll in September 2016.

Our free school meal population is under 50%

Ysgol Bryn Derw total allocation for PDG for 2017-2018 is: £0; this figure is the same as the 2016-2017 allocation.

We are undertaking the following opportunities to support pupils who are facing some of the challenges of poverty and deprivation:

Improving pupil outcomes in literacy, numeracy and digital competence (Welsh Government [WG] priority) through targeted interventions such as music therapy, speech and language therapy, outside learning etc.

Improving pupil outcomes in communication, independence and social skills through a whole school THRIVE approach.

Providing additional support for pupil undertaking enhanced provision such as rebound therapy, community visits and ‘Forest Schools’ activities.

Engaging families, with a particular focus on partnership working and upskilling families in communication approaches.

Early Years Pupil Development Grant (EYPDG) for 3-4 year olds

Our EYPDG allocation for 2017-2018 is £0

Our EIG/PDG plans are regularly scrutinised by the governing body, supported by advice and challenge from the local authority and from the Education Achievement Service (EAS).

Admissions

All admissions to Ysgol Bryn Derw are co-ordinated via the ALN Education team at Newport City Council: 01633 656656.

Ysgol Bryn Derw is currently oversubscribed with a waiting list of pupils. All pupils at the school have a diagnosis of ASD and a range of associated learning difficulties.

School uniform

It is our goal to make the uniform at Ysgol Bryn Derw as practical as possible. Wearing of the uniform is encouraged, but we appreciate that some pupils will require temporary adaptions to the uniform due to sensory challenges or to needing time to adapt to a new uniform style/colour. Please speak to the Headteacher regarding this.

School sweatshirts and polo shirts are available for purchase from major supermarkets.

Uniform (all pupils):

  • Bottle Green polo shirt (either with logo attached via My Clothing (links below) or purchased plain with a badge purchased via the school office)
  • Bottle Green Sweatshirt (either with logo attached via My Clothing (links below) or purchased plain with a badge purchased via the school office)

All items should be clearly labelled with your child’s name

For health and safety reasons, jewellery and piercings are not allowed in school other than a watch and one pair of ear studs

For PE pupils will need a t-shirt, shorts, trainers, a tracksuit (for outdoor PE in winter)

For swimming (you will be notified in advance of dates for any swimming sessions) pupils will need a towel and swimming costume
